I would think a 6gal is a tad small for a dwarf gourami - that's much swimming room and dwarf gourami's are not that small. I'm sure it would work, but personally I would suggest Scarlet Badis (dario dario) if you can find them. They grow to ~1inch, and are super duper cute. The males are lovely, red with irridescent on their fines, the females are paler. You could go with 1.2 in the 6gallon (in that size tank, don't go with more than one male, they will fight), and a few ghost shrimp.

You could put the dwarf gourami in the 10gal? It would be rather small to put anything else (maybe a few rasboras), but you could do a really nice planted tank. Gouramis are gorgeous anyway.
