They have the potential to live longer than 15 years, but that catfish was kept by itself in a 20 gallon tank dedicated to it and fed quite well. Personally, i'd stick with the lifespan you said, but have a side note that they CAN go 15 years or more.
In his case, it's still alive this day because he's dedicated a tank to it, and cared for it quite well.
