Brown algae is fine and will NOT hurt anything. Where is this link saying brown algae is bad? It will NOT kill your plecos. It is a good thing to have in your tank. Getting rid of it defeats the whole purpose of cycling your tank.

Do you have pictures? Once again, where is this link saying brown algae is a killer?

Yes it is a staple in MANY creatures diets INCLUDING plecos....

The brown algae is what I look for before I start adding fish to a tank and I just try to keep it off the front glass (brown or green algae for that matter). The fish don't care if it's there and algae, being a plant, helps neutralize a lot of nasties in your tank...

Just my two cents.
