It works by the basic concept of a siphon. Do you know how to siphon?
And again, the TANK STAYS ON THE STAND....the bucket you drain into goes on the floor. Siphons work by gravity.
Put the large end into the tank, make sure it stays submerged. Get the water flowing through the hose (start sucking on it until the water is sucket to the end of the hose you're sucking on....put it immediately into the bucket. The pull of gravity will continue pulling water out of the tank until you remove then large end from the tank.
The large end goes in the tank, once the water is flowing, plunge the large end lightly into the gravel...the suctions from the siphoning action will lift the waste and leave the gravel in place.
