A lot of people float the bag they came in on top of the water and let them get used to the temperature of the water, and some people just flat out throw them in (well, put them in....throwing would kinda hurt)
I would add them before your betta so your betta doesnt get super territorial. Thats what I did with mine and everything worked out lovely :]
