Sometimes the mothers die from improper care during pregnancy, e.g. improper nutrition. But, in some cases, it's not your fault. The mother could have been a poorly bred fish herself.

To increase the survival rate, give her the best care possible: less stress, nutrient rich varied diet, and of course a clean aquarium.
