Oh, well, I would toss some anacharis into a small kiddie pool and let it sit a couple of weeks. Then I'd add the fish, and stand back. In a week or two I'd take out the adults and let the fry have some room to grow quickly.
Big sponge filters work fine.
Live plants are very, very helpful. The fish use them to help anchor their nests, and they feed the fry while filtering the water.
