Hmmm.....

If you want to pit your filter on a different freshwater tank, then yes, that'll work. In fact, lot of people put extra filters on some tanks just so they'll have some already-matured filters ready to go for new tanks.

However, if you want to put your old freshwater filter on a new saltwater tank, then don't bother. It will have to re-cycle all over again, BUT it would be a bit faster.
