At LAke Simcoe and surrounding canals and rivers about 30 miles from me there has been a mass die off of fish in the last month. People who live near the waterways have been asked to bag up any dead fish on their property and put them out to garbage. This is creating some interesting odors as it is summer!!
Ministry of natural resources in struggling to find out the cause-- one "guess" this week is that the dieoff is due to columnaris.
Then they say at the end of the article that it is not contagious to people and they can still be eaten.
Not a good idea I would think.
