Default Recommendations for salamanders?

Hi,

I have a 140 gallon aquarium, half filled. It contains small to medium sized fishes, a dwarf frog, shrimp, and snails. There is ivy growing amphibiously on the back wall, and a couple of stumps of wood breaching the water's surface. I plan on adding a floating island filled with fine sand, a cave or 2, and maybe some small plants for aesthetics.

I am looking to add a couple of small semi-aquatic salamanders to the mix, but I'm not sure which species would be appropriate. I figure the smaller the better, for the safety of the other tank mates. In the past I would have just bought eastern newts, but I haven't seen them around here in ages. In fact, all I have seen are fire-bellies and tigers (no good). I'm under the impression that the fire-bellies would not be a good choice. (right/wrong?)

As an aside, if anyone has suggestions for other creatures that could live above the water line in my setup, I'd be interested in hearing them too.

Thanks.

Chris
