That is making an assumption. The fish he has is Aplochielus Lineatus, otherwise known as the gold wonder or gold panchax. These certainly do not live in puddles in the wild, the eggs are not capable of surviving a dry period and in fact these live in permanent sometimes quite large bodies of water. This is a large killi reaching almost 4", and the males are aggresive so what you have is common behavior. However, I think he would do alright with the sharks.
