One Word: Croutons.
|
Namely speaking, Timor Monitors.
I've been working with my LFS on getting in at least one so far, and just wanted to check, and see if anyone here has actually kept them. Or, at least, any other monitor. I've kept reptiles since I was little, and i've been around them my entire life- though i've never kept a Monitor personally. I've heard Timors are a little less apt to being handled, and they're not as "hardy" as something like a Savannah (which is too gynormous for me to care for atm alongside an iguana). Other than that, it doesn't seem like many people even keep them. Half of the sites have close to no info on them... and this is only the second time i've even seen them being offered for sale. I did some general research on larger species like Savannah's, and Water Monitors, but Timors are around a 4th of their size and more arboreal. But anywho, any general comments, suggestions? I have everything needed already- except the actual lizard Thanks In Advance!

No duh^^
Try to find a species of monitor that is closly related to them, and google them, or try to find another arborial monitor and google that for general info.

I know they're pretty and have lots of spots.
All I can offer.

They are pretty cool monitors. As long as you provide the correct conditions they should be fine. Ambient humidity about 50-60, and temps 100+ in the basking spot, with ambient temps of 75-85.
If I were you I would save up a little and buy a yellow Ackie monitor. They make a much nicer pet. You really shouldn't handle a timor as they get frightened easily, but ackies adjust to humans wel.

I don't plan on handling it constantly, just enough to where it's used to people somewhat. More so, being able to clean the tank without a big lizard hanging off of my arm fat gnawing me to death like a ham sammich xD.

Timors seriously are not for handling dude. Dont expect it to be used to people. They are a look-dont-touch animal.
Not trying to discourage you man, by all means they are still cool, just warning you so you dont end up with bloody hands.
