Axoltl feeding

We have an axoltl at work. I change his water every week (partial) and have tried feeding him, both axoltl pellets which he has never touched (they are small and hard, can't imagine him eating them) and FD tubifex cubes, which he has eaten small pieces of occasionally, but only once a week. Otherwise he hasn't eaten in weeks...

What can I get him from a supermarket to eat? I heard beef liver and things like that, cut in small pieces? Could I freeze them?

if i were you i would either A get some live black worms, however the tank is at work so feeding would be a task. if you dont feed them in a seperate tank (if you have gravel in the original) they can get down and live in the tank. r B get some frozen ones. the dried cubes never work because the lack of smell. they love stuff that seems alive. you could maybe even get some ghost shrimp. he may not eat the adults but when they mate the little babies can only swim up and downa nd become very easy to eat.

It has large pebbles which things can fall between so he needs to eat anything that I give him on the spot.

umm, you could always get a long set of tweezers and try it, but if the bites are working use them

I have Tiger salamanders. Since they (and axoltls) are cold-blooded, they can go a long time without eating. Mine are trying to hibernate, and won't eat right now (even though it's warm inside). But it is a good idea to get him to eat if you can. Here' s a little info I found: "The axolotl is carnivorous, consuming small prey such as worms, insects, and small fish in the wild. In captivity, they can be fed a variety of readily available foods, including trout and salmon pellets, frozen or live bloodworms, earthworms, and waxworms on occasion. Axolotls also enjoy beef liver and sometimes small prawns."

I think that if you threw a smallish earthworm into the tank, he'd probably go for it. Or maybe a live cricket---the kicking on the surface sometimes gets them to bite. A few guppies in his tank might get him going.

I don't want to feed him guppies/feeder fish, plus he's not actually mine but the owner doesn't realy take care of him. He has eaten those fish in the past though. Might try a pinch of FD bloodworms tomorrow.

I dunno if he'd take freeze-dried bloodworms....the link I posted above says "live or frozen", and I know my fish much prefer frozen bloodworms over the freeze-dried kind. Maybe some waxworms? They always tempt my salamanders. PetCo sells them as "super worms".

or u could try a meal worm, or sum tiny feeder guppies
