Now I've done a fair bit of research about these little critters and I'm very interested in getting one. Are LFSs normally able to order these or should I look into buying from a breeder? If any of you have seen them in your LFSs tell me cause I just want to know how common they are. I'm gonna go check out my LFS soon but if they don't have them and can't order them I'm gonna have to wait till I can check out an awesome LFS I know of in Jersey by my s**************** house this summer.
Thanks for reading and an advice is greatly appreciated

hey fishboy! Long time, no see.
From what I understand, axolotls are kind of a rare find, so it may be difficult to get one through an LFS. Doesn't hurt to ask I suppose, but I've seen a few online places selling them. Unfortunately, I think most only sold them for research purposes. Can't quite recall. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hey Scuba, I know I haven't been around but I plan on coming back every now and again
But in the last few hours I've found a good place to get them online today through another forum, I'm gonna get a 10 cycling soon and get one or two(max for a 10) (btw, I like how you can't write S H O R E without spaces)

I plan only only putting one in a 10, that's what most people recommend and if it does become too small I'll try to upgrade

a 10 gallon seems a little small to me. I would go with at least a 20 long, if not a 36 inch long tank.

Your definately going to want to buy one off the net. When LFS's do have them, they dont tend to be doing well in my experience. You could probably do one in a 10, I think 2 would be pushing it.

I'm buying some axolotls eggs and starting from scratch. Gonna cycle a rearing tank with a few of my danios and make a BBS hatchery. I'll use some of my other danios and white clouds to cycle my other tank.
I might end up with some extra axolotls. If I'm lucky my LFS will take them for trade. I think this will be a fun project and I'll most likely start a new thread about it once it gets off the ground (I wanna start soon and get to the hatching in the last 2 weeks of march or so)

Good luck with them, i've always wanted to get a few- but i've only seen them for sale once. Ordering online is usually the best route to take, like said. A large amount of lfs's can't, or won't, bring them in. Something with not being able to sell them under certain situations... like with mudpuppies.

you're lucky, in the states we have to find them through a system of breeders or through abuse of the education system and their ability to order them. Also, certain websites offer them as live biological material for experiments(this is also a legal method to get captive bred mudpuppies in the US).
