Default swordtails

ok once i get my tank set correctly i would like to add to my swordtails i have now how many can i have in a 10gal and still be stable and livable for them? I currently have 3 1 male greentail and 2 female same type. i like the lyretail swordtails ive seen just looking for some input

I would say a trio is pushing it because they will have so many babies. Unless you plan to grow out the babies in a different tank.

Agreed. If my females get pregnant, I just put them into my angelfish tank until they give birth and the Angels "take care" of the little ones...much better than BBS.

Definately do not add anymore, but if you have babies, you will need at least a 20 gallon with sponge filter and heater as a growout tank.

how will i know when my swordtails are in breeding mode? i dont see a change in there behavior? so 3 is to many? what is the average fry output per birth? so i know what kinda #'s im looking at

with 1 male and 2 females they are probably in breeding mode indefinately. They will have a lot of babies, especially if they are mature... we're talking over a 100 in some cases. If you dont have a lot of hiding places though most of them will get eaten.
