My new tank!!

Hi all,

Was hoping for some advice....

I have a 50L tank, with an internal power filter, and no heater yet just sticking with coldwater fish for now, which I have cycled with 4 Zebra Danios. My ammonia levels are now staying down and pH is steady, so I have bought 4 more Zebra Danios for a total of 8 so there is more of a school.

I am looking at getting probably a few Black Widow Tetras and a couple of Fantails for some colour. My questions are, firstly will these fish be ok together? And how many should I get?
I realise the tetras are a schooly fish so plan to get at least 4 or them and maybe a couple of fantails...?

Or are there any other fish you can suggest that would work well in my aquarium? And if so how many??

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Hmm.............
50L is about 16 U.S. gallons (for reference).
Not much room for another schooling fish. I see you have (or will be acquiring) more danios for a total of 8 which is good. I would not add another schooling fish except maybe 4-5 cories on the bottom.

I would make sure both ammonia and nitrite levels are zero before adding more fish.

I've seen, black widows, zebra danios and fantails kept together with no problems.

Black widows would be better in a school so atleast four to six like you said. There are however gold or gold speckled black widows which could add more colour without adding a new species of fish.

Fantails can grow huge and produce lots of mess so liimit the numbers in a 50 L / 13 US gal tank.

There are so many cold water fish you could keep including white cloud mountain minows (gold or normal), leopard or spotted live bearers, golden medakas or even the black paradise fish (M. concolor) which is less aggresive than the "normal" paradise fish but aggressive when spawning, so maybe just one.

Bengal danios, rosy barbs and golden barbs (both rather peaceful barbs) are nice but grow rather large, around 10-15cm but a fantail can get this size easily.

I think without a heater cories wouldn't be a good idea in Adelaide as most cories like it above 22 C / 77 F.

Just a few things that came to mind...
