I'd go with the 25w bulb.

Purplish bulb is normal for a bulb that's meant for growing plants. I don't like that light to be the only light in my tank: one daylight + one purpllish suits my tastes best. (This is a fluorescent bulb, right?)
I'm with JustOneMore20, use the 25w. A 15w incandescent produces far too much heat and far too little light. |

What are the wattages of the ones you got? About 20w of fluorescent light in total would be good for a moderately lit 10g tank.

they are 10 watts each.. . . . .. 20 watt total. so that would be ok for low light plants?

20w in total is cool! You should be able to grow more than just low light plants in this tank. I would call this a medium amount of light, so you grow quite a variety of stuff. Smaller echinodorus (swords), stem plants that don't get too big, Vallisneria, Sagittaria, most things that aren't really demanding.
