Default starting a cichlid tank

I am thinking of starting a cichlid tank. My tank will be a 10-14 gallons. Is this enough? If so what kind would be the best

the only cichlids I can think of that would work is either neolamprologus brevis, a tanganyikan shell dweller. there are also other small shellies. but only one pair in a tank that small IMO....also you might get a pair of kribs ( pelvicachromis pulcher) but it's an either or deal, the kribs will get a bit big for a 10 gal, but they can work......I'd go with a pair of brevis

I think the cichlids you want are going to be the one's that can be kept in 55G+'s. The best tank you could buy would be a 75G. It would also give you the best variety.

In my opinion, if you have a 10-14 gallon tank, dont do cichlids. Everyone sees africans, or big pretty americans, and wants to do them, but they really do require a 55g+ tank. You should get a dwarf gourami or something, but skip the cichlids.

You can keep a pair of dwarf tangnyikan shell dwellers in a 15 gallon but please don't buy any "assorted cichlids". Research the exact fish your thinking of getting.

So I got a gourami Today Him and my betta seem to get along but they each stay in a corner. So this week I am getting my 10. I love the gourami! I am going to have a tank of them and another fish. Now tell me if this is a good idea when i get it I am going to buy live plants and build a forest in the corner of the tank Purple Cabomba and some lillys. in the other corner some Golden Lloydiella. To much or what?

I wouldn't have less than 40 watts over the tank. Its a high light plant....with that much light, you'll need some type of co2 injection and need to dose fertilizers.

Get a larger tank as soon as you can...1g isn't near big enough.
