Hmm, they could be sick, they could be getting used to the tank still. I have tiger barbs myself, but never had any problems, except for bigger ones pickin on little ones.

Have you cycled the tank? If you havent, could be that. And if you don't want to, then expect casulties. It also could be the size of the tank, they need like 20g at the least to be happy. They are fast movers!

what size tank are they in and how many barbs in total do you have. they are schoolers and require alot of swimming room. Also, it is a good idea to have an odd number of them. I prefer to have no less than 5 for starters. the more you have will help reduce the aggression levels.

This is kind of a standard question/answer we ask all newbs but here goes...
What are the water paramaters...Ammonia, nitrIte, nitrAte, ph, and temp. Get us these numbers and post them and we'll go from there.
This is usually the first place you start looking when the fish are acting "off". If its a new tank and hasn't finished it's cycle (as Kagshi pointed out) then that can cause problems. First rule of thumb...when in doubt, do a water change.

Yes, a water test kit is what you're looking for. I'd suggest getting a liquid test kit instead of test strips. They tend to give a more accurate reading and last longer, in my experience.

oh and btw... sitting still can be a normal barb behavior... especially with tiger barbs (thinking you have the green varient) they will actually sometimes sit so their head is pointing down and tail is pointing up... making them look sick.
