Default Odd Goruami Behaviour

My goruami is having problems swimming. It continually wants to swim towards the bottom of the tank, though it can't. It's stomach area is a little bloated looking - the fish is fatter than normal. If it stops swimming downward, it floats right to the surface. Is there anything I can do for it?

I haven't encountered your exact description but troubles in buoyance tend to be SBD or swim bladder disease. I've had SBD with newly acclimated gouramis before and they typically don't last a day.

The cure for this would be skinned peas and perhaps theres other precautions though I never had the time to do them and therefore don't exactly remember. A search should yield you results.

skinned peas or fasting would work.

Thanks ! My gourami is a very hardy fish; it's still alive after 3 days of these problems; I haven't been feeding him at all, I'm going to start with the skinned peas tomorrow probably.

This morning I boiled and skinned some peas, and put them in my tank. My fish seemed to be eating them, but the peas particles sank so quickly that the majority of it is now sitting on the bottom of my tank. My fish are not interested in food sitting on the bottom, they only want floating food. How can I get them to eat peas?
