My neons schooled at first now they don't really, and one or two are quite aggressive. One doesn't come up at feeding time, perhaps scared of the other fish. My rasboras still school though and only occasionally chase each other, so they are doing great.
I'm thinking 6 is too few, and I should add another 5 or so. Probably in a week once the tank is more established. Do you think this is a good idea or is it likely to make things worse.

Just another question about neons, posting it in the same thread. Do they regrow/repair their damaged tail fins? I have 3 with a part of their fins missing (got them like that from the pet store, just luck I guess). Will they heal and regrow?

IME fins that are damaged by biting heal and regrow, if the water is clean and no fungus or infection develops. I've had two fish over the years that had their tails bitten completely off , down to the meat, and they regrew. All I did was keep up with the water changes.... Fins that are lost to disease, do not seem to grow back, on the other hand.

I agree with Bob (BV77) on the fins.
I have found Neons to be nippy towards Bettas, when I kept them together. I haven't noticed them to be aggressive towards each other, but alot of tetras are, so it wouldn't surprise me. Normally with schooling fish, when you add more to the group, the aggression is spread out, so adding 4-5 more to your tank should definitely help. I also found with mine, that they didn't school very much. The most I kept was 9 in a school. They are very loose schoolers at times, but sometimes do their own things. Adding more will encourage the schooling though. To see them school more often, you should consider adding a slightly larger, more intimidating fish to the tank....like a Bolivian Ram or Apistogramma. |

I bought 4 more today for 10 in total. One of them is so little and underfed, should have seen the little guy at feeding time. I made sure he got his share.
