Default Submersible Heater acting up?

In my 38 gallon, I have the submersible heater to the very right of the tank set at 26/79. I see the light go on and I'm pretty sure it's working.

I have the thermometer set up to the very left of the tank and it reads 24/76 C, I know it should be 26/79, so should I turn the dial up on the heater so that it might bring up the overall temperature in the tank?

Yes, turn it clockwise just a little bit. Check the temp again in 24 hours. You can also check the temp on the right with another thermometer (like one with a probe for measuring outside temp). A tanks temp will be lower away from the heater, but 3 degrees seems like a lot. If its holding steady at 76, its prob. working properly, just needs to be adjusted. If you ever find a heater is "stuck on", throw it out and buy a new one.

Something similiar happens to my tank. The thermometer always ready 6 degrees colder than the thermometer. I figure the thermometer is more accurate and adjust the heater to 70 degrees so that the tank will be 76.
I think you should do same the thermometer would be much more accurate that the digital temperature gauge in the heater.

Yup, the temp that I have my heaters at is lower than the actual temp in my tank according to my thermometers. Once I got them to the temp I desired they have remained very constant. I had a heater that was too small for my 20 gallon in there and that one created a lot of fluctuation, but I moved it to my 10 gallon and the temp in there never changes unless I change it with my water changes. So find the temp you are comfy with at the thermometer and let it be, if it fluctuates you have a problem, if not you should be fine. It should hold within 2 degrees easy (like from 78-80, NOT from 76-80 with a goal of 78. The tank should not drop below 78 or go above 80. I hope that makes sense). Goodluck!

The thermostats are only accurate to a few degrees and each heater will be different. For example I had one which I had to set to 22 degrees in order for it to keep temperatuer around 24-26, if I actually put it on 24 temp would be between 26-28. So a thermometer is also handy (also incase the thermostat breaks or changes its range, but bear in mind thermometers also vary in how accurate they are).

Well it worked. I turned up the dial a few notches and now the thermometer is reading 26.
