Hi... yes im new at this whole fish situation....
I have a 55 gallon fresh water tank... and i used to have a girl who worked for me take care of thetank,.. but she is on maternity leave and now have no one to take care of my fish! so i feed them once a day... and i saw that we now have 7 little baby fish.. i attempted to read up on it and it says that the water needs to be kept very clean and goodstuff. i tested the water today and the ammonia was almost 4.0! i have no idea what to do. i went to my fish store and asked them what to do about low pH and i started doing frequent water changes and that seemed to help. but now this is the first time the ammonia is off. what should i do! help please PS i love talking about my fish |

Water changes are the best way to get rid of ammonia. Are you feeding more because you have babies? They really don't eat much. Add some Prime or Amquel+ to help and check to make sure all your filters are operating and aren't clogged.

ammonia is produced from the fish waste. i think the best thing to do would be to cut down on your feeding. There are also ammonia tablets that decrease the ammonia but i think that would be the last resort.
