Default Freshwater 29g Tank - Crayfish

Can crayfish go with other freshwater fish or do they have to have their own tank?

Here is my setup:
5 Neon Tetras
3 Gold Swordtails
3 Bleeding Hearts
2 Tri-Color Sharks
2 Angelfish
1 Albino Rainbow Shark

Could I have a crayfish in there?

or would it attack the other fish

there's always a chance that it will eat small fish, especially at night

I had crayfish in my tank and they loved to snip at all the other fish. They eat whatever they can...it's instinct. I wouldn't add them but it's your choice.

crayfish are a diverse species, some stay small and be fine in a 10. Others get enormous, check your state laws as well. In my state its illegal to keep any species of crayfish as pets, AND they are native

Carter, I would also increase the numbers of your neon and bleeding heart tetras. I would return the Tri-Color Sharks, because they grow over 14+ inches and require a 6' tank.

I think they might have genetically modified fish that don't grow as long as that though, because I've had the tri-colors for a month and they haven't grown at all.

For the Neons and Bleeding Hearts, do I need more for bigger schools? The lady at the fish store said they are fine in those amounts

Genetically modified fish? I doubt it.

They're stunting.

Ya you don't want to stunt fish. Yes they might look happy but just imagine your feet in a shoe 2 sizes to small. I am sure that is what they feel like.

Return them, they are not genetically engineered, genetically engineered fish for sale are few and far between(one example is a glo-fish). Your Tri-Colors might have been selectively bred but they're not a mini fish who's genes have been altered. They're trying to not grow and, like Ricker said, their insides might be pressuring them as they stop physically growing. This can lead to stress, immune trouble, disease, and death
