Question on driftwood? Also on algae-eater

How long do I soak it for? And if I soak it for a few weeks do I need to boil it still? Or do soaking it just waterlog it. Also I'm thinking of eventually putting something in my 12 gallon that eats algae, I'm mainly thinking of some inverts, since its too small for a pleco, and I've heard oto's like to school and I don't have room in there for that. Is their any algea eating fish that would fit in there or would, a few snails and shrimp be best. All helps greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Boiling can do in a day what soaking takes a year to do. Your choice.
An American Flag Fish will devour any algae that dares to grow in your tank. It's one of the best algae eaters available, but strangely not widely used for the purpose.

American Flag Fish? never heard of it, but I'll look into it. So boiling it makes it waterlogged too? Also will the American Flag Fish be able to live in a 12 gallon? Thanks for the help.
Edit: Ooo... That American Flag Fish is cool, would it fight with a betta? Hope it doesn't lol, cause if not I'm getting one. Wonder if my LFS would have it, its the biggest aquarium store in North Texas, so it might. I hope so. Thanks OldSalt.
Another Edit: Would these be ok by itself with just 1 male? Or would it be better to school them if I had room.

I've read that Flagfish are nippy so I wouldn't keep it with a betta. You'd probably be better getting some shrimp, although they don't eat all types of algae (but, what fish does......except maybe the flagfish...lol). Cherry Shrimp would be nice.

Of course you don't have to have an algae eater in every tank.

Yeah I've been thinking of amano shrimp, because I've heard their pretty good at eating algae, I don't think I'll have many algae problems though, cause no sunlight reaches this tank, but then again it has really strong lighting, so idk lol. I've been thinking of just getting some shrimp and snails though, because I'd thnk those would work best in this size tank. Thanks for the help though =).
