i just bought a new 10 gal. aquarium and for some reason the top inch where there is no water is constantly fogged. any solutions?

It means the glass is cooler than the water, so the evaporation from the tank is condensing on the glass. Unless you want to turn off your air-conditioning, I don't see what you can do. Most of the glass defogging products (live for eye-glasses and windshields) aren't safe for the inside of a fish tank. Do you have a specific reason to keep the water level low? Like live plants sticking out, or to lower the temperature? If you don't, just fill the tank to the bottom of the top trim and you won't see the fog. Change water once a week and top off the tank in between.

ok..i filled to about .25 inches to the top....now with my water changes how much do u suggest me taking out weekly in my 10 gal.

25% change would equal 2.5 gal. So two to three gal would be a good amount.

If you have the time, I'd suggest one gallon every three days on a ten gallon. Otherwise 25% once a week should be fine.
I always find that small tanks like 10 gallons have a tendency to get out of control easily and that frequent water changes reduce the likelihood of this. |
