Question Odd pink....stuff.

A few months ago I had three black mystery snails in my tank and one day I came home and found large deposits of this odd pink stuff that looked like it may have been eggs?

But nothing ever happened with them...they appeared out of the water at the very top of the tank and I waited about a month to see if they would hatch but instead they just dried out and I eventually just scraped them off the glass and tossed the lot of it out...

How long to snails take to hatch? Could this have been a clutch that I gave up on too soon?Another thing, about three weeks after the pink "eggs" appeared, all three snails died. It was very strange.

Any ideas? I'd like to get some more but I don't want to spend my money if they're just going to die a few weeks later.

Oh and what is needed to care for snails? The person at the store just said to give them algae wafers but I noticed the edges of their shell (the new growth) seemed very thin and had lines running along it, almost like they were lacking in some nutrient?

Thanks!

Quick update, I found a pic that looks essentially the same, but the ones I had were a little bigger and way more pink. And they were crunchy when I pulled them out of the tank.

It can take well over a month for them to hatch, depending on temperature and humidity.

Thanks for your response. Does it need to be quite humid for the eggs to hatch? Would spraying a mist of water over them help?
