Good Substrate?

Hey i'm planning on doing a small planted tank i just wanna know what is a good substrate, Good beginner plant, and what kind of lights do I need? Oh and where is a good place to find hardscape? all the decor in my other tanks are plastic x)

what size tank ??

substrate........fine natural gravel as dark as you can find..
lighting.......standard lighting is fine if you don't want to spend a couple of grand...
plants......nice easy to do low light plants that i prefer....java fern and anubias..do not plant ; attach to a piece of driftwood or rock....cryptocoryne are beautiful little plants and they will propagate for you nicely...many different species of them..

you can get anything you want , at alice's restaurant.....
