Default Can it still work out?

I have these 6 cherry barbs and a gold algae eater, live aquaria says min tank environment 30gal. But these fish only max out at 2". Do they say this because the amount of waist they produce, and can this be accomplished with regular water changes.

Some barbs tend to be a bit snippy towards each other, although cherry barbs are pretty peaceful. A bigger tank would give them more space to swim and let anybody picked on get away. A gold algae eater gets several inches long - one google article said 8". They do get a bit aggressive towards other fish. I don't know what size tank you have, but if lightly stocked and you maintain good water quality, you should be ok. You may eventually want to get the algae eater a bigger home, but you have time.

As usual Judya is correct. The Chinese algae eater can grow up to 11 inches, but very slowly. While they are agressive, they won't be able to catch the barbs. Another reason they recommend 30 gallons is barbs love to swim and do best when there is lots of room. I think you will be OK though as Judya stated.

You will probably be fine with those fish in a 20 if you keep up with the maintenance
