Default Do I need to scrape algae if...

I have an algae eater? I want to keep my tank as clean as possible (10 gallon) and I have one otto cat. I also have a clown pleco, but he is going to have to find a new home soon as he is growing. Thanks!

if you have an abundance of algae on the glass, then yes, if it were me, Id scrape it off. There should be plenty of algae growing in the tank to feed them.

What type of algae? You otto probably won't live long if he is the only one of his species in the tank also.

I am not sure what kind of algae. The lady at petco told me I would not need to worry about algae with an otto. But I have read alot about people cleaning their tanks and scraping the glass. So I figured you guys would know the correct information. So if one otto won't survive, why not? And should I get another otto? It is only 10 gallons so not alot of room for many more fish. The pleco is in there right now, but like I said, I think he is going to big and will need a new home. Thanks!

I would move the pleco and get 2 more ottos. If the algae is green circular spots then scrape it. No fish can eat it once its hardened on the glass. Otos will eat it when it first attaches to the tank though. Otos like to have the company of their own.

Do you think that is why the little otto guy is hiding all the time? Maybe he is lonely. Yeah, the pleco isn't going to work in this tank. All he does is hide up the in the filter anyway. He comes out then scurries away when I walk in the room. Soon he won't fit in his little hide away anymore. lol As soon as the pleco can find a home I will get a couple more ottos!
