This may sound like a silly question, but this is my first time with an aquarium. I have a fifty five gallon tank, and the temperature is supposed to be from 70 to 79 degrees for the fish that I have. The water seems rather cold, but the heater is on, and the thermometer says the temperature is just right. Is it supposed to feel cold

Sometimes in my tanks the water feels cold. I have to double check the temp., just to make sure. If the thermometer says its ok, then I would trust it.

My thermometer usually lists between 78 and 80 but when I touch the water it can feel hot one day and cold the next. It depends on me if I'm sweating or if I had just washed my hands with really cold or really hot water. Feeling the water will not give you an accurate picture. Trust the thermometer.

It is usually best to believe the reading on the equipment unless there is a obvious fault. If you have any questions pick up a second therm and place it on the tank so you can compair the 2 and see if they are close. They dont cost that much and if it makes you feel more secure - why not.

I have had that happen to me many times. The temp will sometimes feel cold or sometimes warm. I think it all depends on what condition ones body is in.

In my 55g I have 2 thermometers, a digital one and a regular glass one. That way I can tell exactly what the temp is.

I have two thermometers on my 55. I use the floating kind with the suction cup from Walmart. I have one on each end of the tank. I am a little leary of the stick on kind cuz they sometimes pick up the temperature of the room.
