Default female crowntails

hey everyone im looking to start breeding my crowntails but i have been unable to find any female crowntails at anyof my lfs. i asked the owner of the one i goto all the time if he can order some for me and he said he hasnt seen them offered but will ask for me. why would they not offer female crowntails for sale? and if im unable to breed them can i cross breed the crowntail male with a vieltale female? and has this been done?
