Hello all. I just want to put my setup on here to confirm that everything seems to be fine and dandy. I have a 75 gallon tank and the water settings are all beuno. (good in spanish) The fish are as follows...1 tiretrack eel, 1 leopard puffer, 1 jack dempsy cichlid, 1 fandance goby, 1 unknown cichlid, 1 unknown gar, and a fancy goldfish. Is this all right?
Also,I have heard that gars will have trouble in brackish water, and I wanted some input. Should I take him out, or will he be okay? Thanks everyone. |

Welcome to the board!
I'm not familiar with all the fish you have on your list, but the jack dempsey and unknown cichlid are not brackish fish, and although they can tolerate some salt in their water, I don't think they would do well in a brackish tank. The same goes for the goldfish. Goldfish are not tropical fish and need cooler temps than the tropical fish, adding to more complications of having them in your tank. I don't think a goldie or the cichlids would survive long in your tank set up. Also, puffers are not very good community fish, and don't just eat other fish, they sometimes do it bite by bite. Puffers are usually kept in a species only tank. Sorry. Just trying to be honest. Last edited by Gunnie; 05-24-2006 at 04:26 PM. |

Gunnie, as your brillantly put it, the puffer is no community fish. Almost as soon as I had posted the original message, I noticed the gar was missing a lot of fins. I removed the puffer, and is there anything I can do to get the gar back to normal. He can barely swim as it is. Ah, poor guy.

I think you should remove the goldfish and cichlids and get some true brackish fish.
