hw long does it take a violet goby to reach full length?

he is now in a 10 G. i am going to switch tanks very soon though cuz it must be getting cramped. they get aroung 15 inches but i got him while he was immature and have had him for a year and he is only 8 inches long. does it take this long for a goby to reach full length?

It can take a few years to ten years to see it's full length. And btw , 15 inches is just a general length. There are some specimens that are over 25 inches and about the thickness of someones arm.

If you want to see it get it's full size quicker get a bigger tanka nd make sure ou keep the water brackish

thank you again for yur help, i am going to get a 20 gallon in 2 days. i just figured out that it would die in freshwater so i am rushing

Yup, no problem

Just remember that the twenty gallon won't be good for long, but it's better than the 10 gallon. Later on it'll need a 50-60 gallon for long term care.

Raise the salinity up slowly (.001 per week) and let the tank fully cycle before putting the goby in.

Me and my cousin have kept them in freshwater long term, but most usually develop liver failure, white slime forms over them and they die two days later, or red or orange ulcers on they're mouth that won't ever go away even if they're placed in brackish conditions form .

o so yu cant make it completely brackish at first. let it filter out and then add them? wut is the difference?

the fish wont react badly to a sudden change in water parameters. If you threw him in a brackish tank and he was in freshwater for a year first, he wont adapt well to the new conditions. if you do it slowly, he will have time to adapt to the new conditions of the tank.

Like said, he needs to adjust slowly. Too quickly and you'll put it through esmorgic shock (thinks that's what it's called). The cells will enlarge and some will even burst.
Plus Sg levels need to be raised slowly otherwise you'll kill most of the bacteria in your tank.

Do you have a hydrometer? You will need one to be precise with how much salt you are adding. You also know that you will need marine salt, right?

First, let his new tank cycle, then each WEEK raise the Sg up by .001 until it's at about 1.008.

That fish needs a tank larger than 55 gallons. A 55 is only 13 inches "deep". A 75 is more suitable for them (18 inches "deep). Going with a 65 only increases the height of the tank. It doesn't add more swimming room.
