I have 9 african cichilds in a 20 gallon tank for 1 year.
Now I got a new tank of 40 gallon. How do I do to put my 9 fish in the new tank? Please help. thank you, Irina |

This should be in General or Cichlids... but anyways
I would put the 20G of water from the old tank into the new tank then put the fish in there. Also if you can put the used 20G filter pad in the 40G filter. And if you can keep the gravel from the 20 for the 40.

The old tanks gravel has the most bacteria in it, put the gravel in to your new tank and there should be no problems. Try to minimize the feeding for a couple of days though, and check your water rates often.

The old tank water isn't necessary. It contains nothing but excess nutrients and nitrates to add to the new tank. The gravel (and mulm) from the old tank has the bacteria in is (as stated above) along with your filter media. I would transfer the gravel, add new treated water and run the old and new filters for 2 weeks. Make sure the water is the same temp. Moving the old water could cause a buildup of nutrients, nitrates which could lead to algae problems and unhealthy fish (especially if your tap has nitrates in it).

Then just save the gravel and the filter pad.
