Well I'm going to make the change in the Brackish tank to sand,
Seen my neighber's 55 after he used a tube of sand out of a pick-up and desided I am going to try this. I have rocks in the bottom now, not gravle, rocks that was in my75g I picked up here and there that I took out the last time I went though the gravle when it was out of the tank. my question is, If I push all the rocks to one side of the tank, and add few cups of sand each day after I clean it, this wouldn't mess up the bio in the tank will it? Then when I get the bottom half covered or so, i'll take the rocks out....and continue to finnish the sand. We went to the lake awhile back and spent some time rock gathering and tuff, so the rocks won't stay in there, I'll let the g/f pick the ones she wants that we got at the lake. Anythought on this? I'll prolly shut the pump down when I add the sand, it will aready be soaked and should sink rather nice. |

Yea that sounds like a plan, i am constantly removing sand from my main tank to set up new ones and avoid a cycle, so then i have couple 50# bags around and add sand back to the main tank to reseed the new stuff, exact same theory...
You could even get a woman's nylon thing, and fill with tons of gravel in it, and put in sand while keeping the nylon rock bag in the tank and just set it on top of the sand after your done putting it in, will be the exact same thing...

A) be prepared ... your tank WILL be cloudy, despite your best efforts to keep the sand still.
B) unless you are running an undergravel filter, yank all the rocks at once if you choose. There will be some bacteria on them, but i doubt it could have any impact on your system as a whole, the majority will reside in your filter, so just monitor you ammonia/nitrites over the next week or 2 but i doubt you'll see ant changes. |

Just an update here, I desided against the sand, babyhuey sifted the small gravel out of a sandbag "a truck wieght one" for his 125, and used the finer sand, I got the small gravel from him for the 10g con tank, I really like it, just what i been looking for......so Now I have to part of that in my brackish tank, so I have to do another bag and finnish it......looks really nice that way......
