Default moving a mono from a marine to a tropical set up

Hi,

Wondering if you guys can help, I've got a marine tank and a tropical tank, the marine has only a mono left in it, (it attacked all the other fish)
I'd like to put the mono in the tropical tank which as a large plec in it, I've read that mono's can be in marine or tropical tanks, if I can move it how would you suggest I do it, eg: slowly add normal water to the marine tank to get it used to tropical water?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

mono should be in a brackish tank. and if you are already in a SW set up, you will need to slowly acclimate it. if you attempt to put it in fresh water, it will likely die.

Sad but true. Monos don't belong in fresh water.

it is possibly that a human being could be converted to live and breathe underwater..
how about somebody vollenteer (sp?) for this project...
sorry kids...i just get kind of tired of folks always wanting to do dumb stuff like putting freshwater fish into saltwater and vice versa...monos live in brackish to full salt water..yes ; the young can survive in freshwater for a short time...but why would you want to make them suffer to do it...
ok..i'm done..you can go dump your fish into the freshwater tank now.

The problem is that their are "brackish" and true brackish fish. Some fish live in estuaries and wetlands, have evolved to tolerate salt, but otherwise live in fresh water. Most of our sunfish actually fall into this category, as do some halfbeaks. It is said that they are brackish not because the fish really need it, but that they can tolerate it. It is often said these fish do better in brackish water. This is mostly because the salt kills non-halophitic bacteria, algae, and parasites, which otherwise bother these fish. Depending on who you talk to mollies, and even moquito fish fall into this category, each for a different reason.

Other fish, like mono's and puffers, live their entire life semi-saline environment. They cannot tolerate non-saline conditions. Period.

I figured it was that, and not laziness on the part of the mods.

Just thought I would post a link to a thread that was started awhile back from a different forum I'm on where Saltwater fish where kept in freshwater.
Anything is possible.
Very mixed responses on it also.

Possible isn't necessarily good.
I see the fish he used were of the estuarine variety, mostly, so that helps.
If your water is hard enough to replace the salt, this can work...for awhile.

Once upon a time you could even buy some stuff in the petshop called "Magic Ocean" mix. With it, you could easily mix fresh and saltwater fish in the same tank.
You'd think such a thing would have been pretty cool, but no; there's a reason that stuff is long gone. Those fish just aren't meant to be together
