I have heard that Figure 8 puffers have 2 rows of teeth for crushing the hard shells of crustations and many sites have said you can feed snails and other crustations to the Figure 8. So what I want to know is can a juvenile
Figure 8 eat snails and other crustations? Also I live near a rocky shore. Can I just pluck a snail off a rock and feed it to my puffer, would that be adding to the salinity since the snail came from the ocean, should I wash it first ? |

juveniles will eat snails as long as they are small enough. puffers need to eat snails to grind down their forever growing teeth. if they do not eat enough snails or othewr hard-shelled things their teeth will overgrow and they will starve to death. you shouldnt need to wash the snails off because of added salinity. it wont add much.

Also I don't want to make alot of trips so I want to create some sort of snail holding pin. Do you think snails will adapt if I put fresh water instead of salt water or should I just use salt water and a few rocks.

if they are saltwater snails, they will die in freshwater...just fill a jar or smaller tank with saltwater and a bubbler or something and you can keep the snails in there for a while by feeding them flake food.

Your best bet is to got the the aquarium store & pick out the tiny pest snails that come in on plants. That's the kind they need.
