Default brackish protein skimmers

At what SG does protein skimming become effective ? do protein skimmer eliminate the use of traditional air pump/bubblewand combos?Id like to add one in the future ,@ an SG of 1.015 -1.016 will this work well?

I don't know, but if the salinitly is too low for one, then freshwater skimmers are available. However they are more expensive.

If you have a big enough tank with enough hiding places, pH of around 7, you can keep virtually any fish together as long as all the fish are around the same size and these two groups of fish are avioded:
Serrasalmus
Tetradon
(figure eights and dwarfs are the
exception).

I keep a successful community of fish in a 4 foot tank including the following families:
Cichlids, tetras, loaches, gouramis, barbs, rainbows, livebearers, killiefish, catfish, puffers.

it definately can be used as an expensive aerator, however I am not certain on what the sg has to be for it to be effective as a filter... I am pretty sure that 1.016 wouldn't be optimal, but would get the job done.

That seems a little high for most brackish fish.

I have a protein skimmer and on the box it says at what sg in brackish tank it'll wok I just have to find it.

Otherwise if your sg is too low it won't work.

actually most brackish fish can go from full salt to full fresh for some period of time, its actually best for them if they do have a flux sg. 1.016 is a little over half saltwater, perfect for brackish conditions... temperarily.

Well I know some fish like monos and gsp's can go all the way to full saltwater but most like dragon gobies usually need 1.008 or something along that line. For some fish it might be too mcuh but I guess the sg depends on what type of fish thy're getting.
