first time i saw clownfish breeding was in 1975 at a friends home.. but those were just percula clowns... there were also neon gobies breeding , laying their eggs in small clay flowerpots...
but , back then the fry never survived because nobody had found out how to keep the babies allive..the right foods had not been found...
a few years later an outfit in florida found a way to get the fry to survive.since that time ; things have changed dramatically... more and more marine animals have been successfully bred and raised.and the rarer and more difficult to breed fish present a bigger challenge... very few can afford them...
foster and smith has become a large and very wealthy company...but they did not have to take such a costly risk with these animals... they took a big chance on these beautiful little fish.. and with a dedicated staff ; they were able to succeed at getting these fish to spawn and able to keep the fry alive....and before long , that investment and dedication are going to pay off as they sell the young offspring....
i applaud them for making a decision that could have cost them 10's of thousands of dollars with no return....
pretty awesome stuff..
