Default clownfish

i plan on doing either a 20 or a 29 gal reef tank.. also i wanted to put a couple fish in there that would spawn in my tank. so i was either thinking of doing perculas or the black clownfish (dont know their name, think maybe black perculas). just wondering what kind of filter would be the best for it all, undergravel or something like a rio with a sponge over the intake? and could i do both pairs of clownfish or could i only do 1 pair? i would like to do mushrooms, polyps, and simple things like that with them would that work? thanks

After your tank is setup for awhile, you dont want UGF, you could run a AC500 Fuge on back of 29g. I believe u need to siphon the eggs out when you see them into another tank that just has a airstone on it. then hatching begins...keeping them alive is completely another story, get'em to breed which takes awhile...

Just one pair!

They're a bit tricky, but not too hard. I'll be back later with some details if someone else doesn't provide them.

Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine.

Yes, I get it. I don't recall the article, but since I used to be the growout manager of a clownfish farm, I tend to not pay much attention to such articles anyway.

Yikes!

Actually, after raising about 3 million of the little guys, I kinda got bored with them. It was "neat" for about a week, but then it was just a grueling job.

Yes, shrooms & polyps will be fine with them, but bear in mind that they are very toxic and as such the water will have to be changed a good bit if you want the clowns to spawn.

Quite right!

Even better, it doesn't matter what gender they are when you start. Just put two random fish together and they'll change sex according to dominance. The boss fish will be the female and the other one will be the male within a few months. The females are almost always going to wind up being the bigger fish of the two.

wot else is when they born they are all guys, so if u did a shoal of them ud have a breeding pair then the rest guys who just be m8s as it were, when the female dies the dominant male takes the wifes turn and another clown from the shoal becomes the dominant male.

quite cool tbh :P
