Default Let's talk about stripping, i love to strip!

I bet when you clicked on that link to bring you here, you thought i was talking about adult entertainment, well your wrong! I am talking about stripping fish, pulling eggs from females and harvesting them in your own "incubator" Some of us here do it, i do it but usually not til later on down the road.

My average strip time is 15days, sometimes a lil before. I've stripped 2days after spawning didnt have any luck.

Here is something from Ted J.'s he is still working on,(www.tedsfishroom.com) very ingenouis it is! i personally think it is best tumbler i have seen:

I have done your regular egg tumbler's and a DIY one too:

and:

When i tumble i usually just fill up a 10g with tank water from the tank the female mom was in, that way water is the same and move them on out, they finish hatching in their new tank and then i release them:

And then i go back to putting Barry Manelow back on for the parents so they can do it again.

What's your method?

I've heard that Barry White and a bottle of ripple can increase the potential for a higher yield.

I like your buddies "test tube" tumbler. How does the water get out .. just an over flow near the top? I might have to come up with something like that myself I've got several power heads just chillin as back ups.

As far as stripping I said it in one other post on here I usually wait about 5-7 days MAX that way the female can get back to eating and amintaining her health. They have hard enough time getting food away from the males and other fishes withough lettin them starve for 3 weeks plus that some folks do.

I have been known to strip them after a day or so after I know all the "action" is finished and just tumble them for the duration. As far as time in the tumbler once they can keep them selves off the bottom for a few minuets at a time I drop them into the tank. Not quite "free swimming" but close enough. I usually need tumbler space by then any way I do this so the fry can start scootin around the bottom and getting algae and other nutricious tid bits of goodies instead of just livin off egg sack LOL

I have a VERY high success rate with fry. I'm still experimenting with egg layers (buffalo heads and A. Calvus) and their fry seem to be a bit more sensitive. I just lost a hatch after moving them to a fry tank. I guess I needed more of the host water or something but they were good for several weeks than just all the sudden GONE ... of course the yellow lab fry were growing at a much faster rate and coulda wiped them out for me ... hhhmmmm
