Pink Convict acting funny

I have a pink convict at home, he is about a year and a half old. Right now he is in a tank alone because he seems to be afraid of anything. When anyone walks up to his tank he goes for cover and when we feed him, we have to walk at least 20 ft away before he will tentatively come out to get his food. Any clue what is going on with this guy?

SHould I give him a tank buddy?

Sounds like he associates people with nets and other trauma. Fast him a bit and he will learn to be glad to see you. Or you could add more cover. The more hiding places, the safer he feel and more you will see him.

I agree, he need more spaces to hide and he sounds as though he would like a buddy, this would make him feel safer.

when you feed, dont walk away, put your face right up to the tank. eventually the fish will come out to eat, and soon people will be associated with food. doing this in combination with fasting should do the trick.
