Tank decor

Well I really enjoy large rocks. The sad part is that my Lace rock has to be pulled out of my 250. My fish are just chewing themselves up on it. (I have a few hurt eyes now too.

I don't give this tank any light so I can't put plants, and I hate the pot look. (Especially since this tank isn't for breeding.)

Now I was thinking on trying some pillars of granite (or marble), and hopefully they wouldn't hurt themselves nearly as much, but are there any other suggestions?

River rock. Its rounded and cheap (Pike stone center). The only drawback is its weight. An avalanche in a 55 doesn't go far, but it might cause trouble in a 220. I like those "plastic rocks" and Lok-rocks (cheesy looking, but the fry hide underneath). But in any quantity, they get prohibitively expensive.

PVC pipe. You can fasten it together into pyramids with cable ties or hide it under a rock pile.

Your 250 is your African tank, right?

I agree that river rock looks best. That's what I have in my 480g, but it doesn't go exactly with Africans.

Yah it is the african. (So I don't think wood would look right.) I am going to search for pillars of stuff that is at least 2 feet tall.

Flat slabs of limestone stack fairly well and you could drill holes in them and thread them on a rod to keep them from toppling. Kind of a do-it-yourself pillar. I disagree that river rock looks wrong for Africans. Lots of rivers dump into the lakes at their ends and the rock piles there look a lot like river rock.

Oh I have no problem with river rock, I just don't want to do the stacked looked. If I find some good long cylindrical ones that I can flatten a base on I might use them.

You're welcome to stop by and check out our rock collection to see if there's something you can use. We've got river rock, slate rock, zebra rock (wtf is that?), and many more. It's a regular rock super center over here.

no columns though...

The river rock is sorted by size and they did have some near boulders. Its all sort of roundish though.

There are cast concrete 'ruined columns" for garden decor, but I think they are medium $$.
