Default Gourami problems

My platinum gourami hays these white worm-like things coming out of him. they come out of his chest, stay there for a while, then evntually fall off. i think this may be worms. i have been treating this. is this worms or something else? my goldfish has it too, but the worms come from.......uh.......the "back end" can someone tell me what this is?

Worms.

Get some medicine called "Prazi-Pro" from the petshop and follow the directions on the bottle. This will kill the worm eggs in the gravel as well as the worms in the fish.

What are you using for treatment now? Some other things are good for worms, but they aren't very good for eggs.

Um, am I the only one that thinks it *could* be pale feces? Baby, how loong have you been keeping fish? And what are you feeding them? Are the fish acting alright?

i've been keeping fish for like 2-4 months now. the fish act fine to me, i mean they're pretty active, they swim properlu and everything. i just give the gourami tropical fish flake, and the goldfish goldfish flakes. i'm new to this, so i don't know what kind of live thing you can give them. i just wanted to keep it simple. ya know? but if there's anything that can help them. but why would feces come from the gourami's chest? is that just the way they are? do they do their ahem........business......from the chest? i'm confused, but its not ur fault

Yes, as a matter of fact, the anus on a gourami is pretty far forward compared to most other fish. Score one for drosera!

Instead of Prazi-pro, you can instead try "Pepso Food" in case it's not worms. That will flush them out nicely, revealing the verdict for sure.

You know my Lyretail guppy had the same problem your Gourami seems to have. The only difference is near the guppy's chest there was this really big deep red/black spot that seemed to be with him and would get larger or smaller with each passing day. One day the spot seemed to be pushing itself out of his body and it actually looked like he was excreting from his chest but the "waste" wasn't white like Baby's, it was a black color. I thought everything was fine after that but a couple weeks after he died with the black spot on his chest again. All of the other fish in the tank appear to be fine and have no other markings on them. Was this some type of parasite that will leech on to my other fish or was it some sort of problem in just my one guppy like an organ exploded or something?

You can also try enriching their diet. No one (or even 2) foods can possibly give the fish all the nutrients they need. You can supplement the food you are already giving them with other frozen or freeze dried foods, pellets, and even food from the kitchen. Peas, zucchini or cucumber (for the goldfish), and certain fresh seafood, are good additions. Live foods such as worms can sometimes be bought, but I prefer to grow my own outdoors in a pail. Simply placing a pail of water outdoors will provide you with worms, crustacea, mosquito larvae, but when starting from scratch, it can take quite a while to get the amounts you need. Don't collect live food from the wild, as they can sometimes carry disease or introduce unwanted pests. Do a search on the web, and you should find other peoples advice on foods for fish, and how to use or obtain them.

But every time you try a new food, only use a little bit, to see if they will eat it first. If they don't like a cetain food, remove it, and try something else.

Take care!
