Vishy vishies!

Simple question. My 10 gallon is filtered by an internal filter with sponge medium, it has a venturi attachment but I stopped using it because I noticed the fish would sometimes sit in the bubble spray and "choke" on the bubbles. It creates a good amount of surface movement which I understand is the most important for CO2/Oxygen exchange.
What do you think? Shame I don't have any way to measure oxygen levels.
