Default Brand new 16g freshwater setup!!

Hey guys...I'm brand new to Fishforums.com!! I didn't do much research on the subject of starting/maintaining a tank (*sigh* I should have, I know!!). I kind of just winged it and bought all the gear. So unfortunately the water is still quite cloudy (I've had it less than a week). I just found out about cycling and such...so yeah, newbie... I know. Anywho, I have one tancho koi, one ryukin, an african albino clawed frog, and one pleco. I plan on giving away the goldfish and have already found someone on craigslist to take the koi when it becomes to large for the tank. As soon as I get some more cash flow I'm planning on redoing the whole setup and opting for some exotic fish. Here is what my tank currently looks like... a little lame compared to some of the others I've seen on this forum, but I digress. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

Welcome to FF!

I would definitely go for tropical fish. You'll have a lot more choices species wise with fish. Also, if you pick the right fish, you don't have to worry about rehoming them because of their size like the goldfish .

The tank looks good; a lot like most of ours when we started, lol. Once you get the hang of it, I'm sure you'll have a great looking tank

hi welcome to fish forums, nice looking tank

i would advise you not to wait untill he gets to big before you give the koi away as he may become stunted before that time which isnt good for the fish

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't keep anything that you already have in that tank. The pleco, if it's a common plec, will get massive and create wayyy too much waste for that tank. When I say massive, I mean in excess of a foot. Sometimes they reach 2 feet. Albino clawed frogs will also get quite large, at about 5 inches. I'd get at least a 29g if I were to keep the frog.

Welcome to the forum! You'll get tons of help here.

Thumbs up

Thanks guys...your advice is quite helpful...the more I research, the more I realize that I should have waited and chose carefully. However, there is a wealth of information on this site; my next set up (whenever that may be) is bound to be great!

I would reccomend just taking them all back now, I doubt they will survive while your tank is getting cycled. And they dont belong in a tank that small at any point of their life.

I know you want to rehome the koi as it gets to large, but it wont grow. So if you already found someone, go ahead and let it go now.

Clawed Frogs get very large and eat nearly any fish they can, if you love it, your going to need a new tank, and probably just for him.

I dont mean to rain on your parade, but you can hear it from me/us or learn with the likely possibility of everything dying.

I agree with Clerk. You really should rehome everything ASAP.
