Things to quickly check with your tank.
Everyday
- Look to see that all of your equipment is functioning properly. Is water circulating through the filter? Is the heater working? What temperature reading are you seeing on your thermometer (should be around 76° to 80° Fahrenheit for tropical fish).
- Look at your fish. Do they appear normal, acting in a healthy manner? Or do you see reasons for concern (lethargy, unusual spots on the fish, etc.)? If you feel you have a problem, ask us here how to help.
Twice a month
- Use a test kit to test the chemistry of the water. You’ll want to test the levels of ammonia and nitrite in the water, as well as the pH level. If you have a problem with the water, a 50% water change will help to manage the problem.
- It’s normal for water to evaporate from your aquarium, perhaps 1” to 2” per week. At any time, you can top off the aquarium with tap water…be sure to treat the water with AquaSafe® before adding it to the aquarium.
This was another tetra quick tip.
