Default Did I make a mistake?

I bought a gold gourami yesterday, a male, thinking it was a honey gourami (I hadn't looked them up for a while). Now I find out that golds are just a variation of blues which I swore I would never get again because the one I had was so aggressive, and they get big!! My question is, did I make a mistake in buying this for my peaceful community tank?

After it's quarantined in the 10 gallon, I plan on adding it to the 30 gallon. At that time take the lf danios out of the 30 as they have fish TB, and eventually add some more neons. With the combo of fish in my siggy, is this fish going to torture the others? It's leaving the sole lf danio alone so far...

I, too, have a male gold gourami. While they are very aggressive, mine doesn't show any aggression toward the harlequin rasboras or rummynose tetras that are his tankmates. They are in a 29 gallon tank. You may be safe it the fish you are putting him with generally occupy a different part of the tank.

I dont know crap about the other fish you have, I know my 2 gold gormies do just find in my 60g community tank. I think we have a male and female.there are tank mates with tigar bards<3>, eel , bala shark, catfish, pleco.

I think it would depend on the actual gourami that you bought. Some will be passive while others are not. When you place him into the 30 gallon, be sure to keep an eye on him for a while to make sure that he's not attacking anyone else.

Personally my gold gourami is very mean and he attacks the blue crayfish in the tank. I don't know what he's trying to do, but if he keeps it up I'm sure he's gonna get what's coming to him.

Sprite, how big is your gold? How long have you had them? It's good to know he gets along with your tetras, they are the ones I'm most concerned about.

Little, I wouldn't worry about him if I had your fish-mix, since you have a semi-aggresive tank. (It's what I would do if I had a 55 or 60g!!)

LOL! He leaves the danio alone but he does pick at the apple snail (which I don't mind, the thing is a behemoth that eats every plant I put in there in spite of feeding him a couple of lettuce leaves a day). Maybe it's an invertabrate thing? You are right, though, it may be that he has a personality that will work.

It does depend on the fish. I have had some of the blues in community tanks and they lived their own little peaceful life while others I had to isolate and give their own tanks.
I have noticed it seems to be that the males are more agressive.

I have had my gold about 1.5 years. He is about 3.5 to 4 inches in size. He has killed several female bettas that were the original tank mates.

I had gotten him to go in the 55 gallon with my blue gourami. But, he was small enough that I couldn't tell whether he was male or female. My blue is a female. They didn't work. I had to find an alternative. So, he went into the female betta tank (there were 5 of them). The females started dying. So, I moved them all out and let him have the tank. He is king of castle now.

One thing to keep in mind is that gouramis are in the same family as bettas as they are both Anabantidaes. This means they act and react very similar.

My two golds get along fine with the Angelfish. I think that they will stay until I change up the tank.

Goregeous betta in your avatar. What kind is it? Angels are semi-aggresive too, but I remember my blue picking on an angel a long long time ago.

Thank you...he is an Overhalfmoon Black Copper named Samurai. I love his color and finnage. He was bred by Victoria Parnell @ BettySplendens and will be spawning with one of my two Black Green females this summer. I am very interested to see what colorations I get from that spawn.

The Gouramis that I have were raised in a tank with 6 full-size Angels. Now, they are in a tank with 8 quarter to full-size Angels. They are both females, so the temperment is a marked difference from a mated pair or males in general.
