Ok, so I have these 4 Tiger barbs in a 12 gal and my brother had 3 black phantom tetras in his 20 gal, anyways 1 of the tertas dissapeared (believed to be eaten by a polypterus palmas) so we moved the other two into into my 12 a couple days later one died and the one left over came down with really bad Ich. I got it cleared up and ever since then this tetra follows the alpha barb around like a little dog yet the barbs dont nip at him or anything its like he's one the gang. Has any one else had an experience like this.

Not with the fish you mentioned, but something along this line. I have a large school of bait and tack shop minnows. I rearranged my tanks because I had to move my Chinese algae eater for being aggressive and figured they would work out well with him. But it turned out that the minnows thought the CAE was one of them on steroids (the minnows back then were still juvies and only half his size). They followed him wherever he went except they got confused when he went vertically up the tank wall and they could not do that. I had to separate them again because this closeness would have been too tempting for my already slime coat loving CAE.
